After teaching high school English for two years, she earned a Master's degree in Education from the University of Michigan (1962). Edna served on the faculty at Wayne State University until her retirement in early 1999
Thereafter, she continued to teach an occasional course until she was eighty-two years old. Edna died on May 23, 2015, at the age of eighty-eight.
